Help us defeat this terrible bill!
Call your Representative Now!
Coloradans can’t afford higher health care costs and cuts in coverage just to give the rich another tax break. We have learned that the latest proposal would not only gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions and allow insurers to eliminate any basic health benefit they want, but could also bring back annual and lifetime limits on your insurance coverage. If you got cancer or another serious illness, you could face bankruptcy with annual and lifetime limits. Republicans claim they'll protect people with pre-existing conditions by reinstituting high-risk pools, but Colorado has been there and done that, and it doesn't work. High risk pools are a failed option where people get stuck on waiting lists for coverage, face huge premiums, and can't get the care they need.

Oh, and yes, the bill will still result in at least 600,000 Coloradans losing their health care and Colorado losing $14 billion of dollars to provide health care to seniors, people with disabilities, and children. It will put rural hospitals and clinics at risk of closing and make health insurance less affordable while giving $50,000 tax cuts to millionaires. We need you to contact your Representative and tell them to oppose this even more extreme bill.

Overarching message: Enough is enough. Stop trying to repeal the ACA. Do not gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions and Medicaid, and take away health care from over 600,000 Coloradans.

Talking Points Based on Latest Revised GOP Plan:
-
The GOP plan would create a "sick tax" by allowing insurers to charge sick people and people with pre-existing conditions more. This breaks the promise to keep protections for people with pre-existing conditions and would hurt over 2 million Coloradans with pre-existing conditions (tell them about anyone in your family that has a pre-existing condition).
-
Ask your representatives not to vote for any bill that guts protections for pre-existing conditions or guts funding for Medicaid!
-
-
Any health care reform shouldn't allow insurers to take away essential health benefits and offer skimpy plans that won't cover basic types of care like hospitals, prescriptions, lab tests, mental health, maternity and newborn care, substance abuse treatment, cancer treatment.
-
Consumers should be able to have confidence that their health insurance plan provides the coverage they need. The American Health Care Act will let consumers get caught by surprise when their health plan doesn't cover basic services like...(insert any number of basic health benefits).
-
In Colorado, an estimated 600,000 Coloradans will lose their health care from cuts to the Medicaid program alone.
-
Colorado will lose $14 billion dollars from Medicaid by 2030 leading to drastic cuts in important programs that help the elderly and people with disabilities remain independent and in the community, and health care that invests in our children so they can learn and thrive.
-
The AHCA pushes health insurance out of reach for many hard-working Coloradans in order to cuts taxes on the top 1% by nearly $600 billion.
-
High risk pools require insurers to discriminate against consumers with pre-existing conditions and don't provide adequate coverage. Colorado tried a high-risk pool before and consumers faced long waits to get covered to get the care they needed and had to pay much higher premiums once they could enroll in the high-risk pool. They don't work.

Let's stop this repeal madness! This bill would be terrible for Coloradans and terrible for Americans!
